Slip Developer Terms

Version 2026-10-27 draft · applies to the Slip developer portal, sandbox and Payments API

Draft. These terms are a working draft pending review by Slip's legal adviser. The final version will be published here and you will be asked to accept it.

1. Who these terms are for

These terms apply to anyone who creates a developer account to use the Slip sandbox or the Slip Payments API ("you"). If you act for a company, you confirm you may bind it.

2. The sandbox

The sandbox is for building and testing only. It does not move real money, and its data may be reset. Do not put real customer data or real identity documents in the sandbox; use test data.

3. Your credentials

  • Keep your client id, client secret, tokens and webhook secrets confidential and store them only on your servers, never in apps or browsers.
  • Tell Slip at once if you think a credential has leaked, and replace it from your dashboard.
  • You are responsible for all calls made with your credentials.

4. Acceptable use

  • No attempts to break, overload, probe or bypass Slip's security, rate limits or other customers' data.
  • No fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing or any unlawful activity, and no use that breaks the laws of Kenya or the rules of Safaricom, banks or other payment providers.
  • No automated sign-ups or accounts created for someone else without their authority.

5. Going live

Live access is granted to a Slip business, not to a developer. It requires the business's Slip Business Code, confirmation by the business's designated person with identification and a signed board resolution, and approval by two Slip officers. Live calls are accepted only from approved server IP addresses. Fees for live transactions are agreed with the business and shown by the API.

6. Monitoring and audit

Slip logs API calls and keeps an audit trail of account actions (who, what, when, from which IP address) to keep the service safe, investigate problems and meet legal duties. Request and response bodies with secrets are never logged.

7. Privacy

Slip processes the personal data you give (name, email, phone, company) and technical data (IP addresses, logs) to run your account, secure the service and contact you about it, as provided by the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. We do not sell your data. You may ask to see, correct or delete your data, except where the law or an open investigation requires us to keep it. If you send customer data to Slip on live, you confirm you have the right to do so.

8. Suspension and ending

Slip may suspend or close an account or credentials at once to protect customers, money or the service, or if these terms are broken. You may close your account at any time by contacting Slip.

9. Service and liability

The sandbox is provided as it is, without guarantees of availability. To the extent the law allows, Slip is not liable for indirect losses from using the sandbox or the documentation.

10. Changes

Slip may update these terms; the version and date are shown above, and material changes will be announced on the portal.

11. Contact

Contact Slip through your Slip account manager.
